Corning´s mind-blowing concept of a glass future |

"A Day Made of Glass 2" is a montage of "how highly engineered glass, with companion technologies, will help shape our world," according to Corning. It is mind-blowing to imagine everyday objects suddenly having rich, interactive displays and multiple functionalities. After watching the video, I began to think about how intelligent glass, installed on a broad scale, could change the world. There are two key integrations: in the education and medical fields. |

Columbus has entered an agreement with Romag Ltd to replace its current systems with a fully integrated 52-user ERP system based on Microsoft Dynamics AX. The Microsoft Dynamics AX solution with 52 enterprise users replaces two older systems, GlassPro for specialist sales order processing in the glass processing industry and a Pegasus Opera accounts package that previously managed financials, purchasing and invoicing. |

Am 17. und 18. Januar 2012 trafen sich über 200 Branchenvertreter zur Fachtagung „Die neue Bauproduktenverordnung und CE-Zeichen in der Praxis“ in Rosenheim. Die Kombination aus fundierten Vorträgen, konstruktivem Gedankenaustausch und den kompetenten Diskussionsrunden brachte Klarheit in die Paragraphenwelt der neuen Bauproduktenverordnung (BauPV). Von der EU-Kommission wurde die Rechtsform der Verordnung gewählt hat, um eine schnelle und einheitliche Umsetzung in allen Mitgliedsstaaten zu erreichen. Damit erfolgt die CE-Kennzeichnung künftig europaweit konsequent nach einheitlichen Vorgaben. |

Samsung to Make Super AMOLED Displays Even Stronger Thanks to Lotus Glass |

Samsung was already using Gorilla Glass in their Galaxy S devices to make them more scratch resistant and shatter proof, but they are now signing a partnership with Corning to manufacture the next generation of Gorilla Glass, called Lotus Glass. The Lotus Glass will withstand higher processing temperatures that are needed to manufacture AMOLED displays, so Samsung will benefit not just from being able to brag with a stronger display, but also to more easily and more cheaply manufacturer their panels. |

Auf der CES in Las Vegas hatte man uns bei Corning ein erstes Sample von geschwungenem Gorilla Glass 2 gezeigt und uns erklärt, man kooperiere mit diversen Smartphone-Herstellern, um die neue Technik schon bald in Endgeräten unterzubringen. Samsung scheint einer dieser Partner zu sein: Zusammen mit Corning arbeitet man an geschwungenem Lotus Glass. |

Secondo alcune indiscrezioni Samsung e Corning, l’azienda produttrice del famoso vetro ultra resistente Gorilla Glass, starebbero lavorando fianco a fianco per la realizzazione di un nuovo vetro curvo studiato apposta per rendere al meglio su display di tipo OLED e che come da tradizione Corning, offra una grande resistenza agli urti e ai graffi. |

Japan Inc. is suffering and the supply chain is bearing the cost. Sumco Corp., a supplier to Sony Corp. and Toshiba Corp., said yesterday it will cut 1,300 jobs. Auto windshield maker Nippon Sheet Glass Co., which sells to Mazda Motor Corp., said it will cut 3,500 jobs. They join NEC Corp., a Japanese maker of telecom equipment and components, which said last month it would eliminate 10,000 positions. |

Pilkington plans to close one of its three UK lines |

The owner of the glass manufacturer Pilkington, Nippon Sheet Glass (NSG), says it will close one of its three UK production lines as it cuts costs. The move is part of NSG´s plans to cut 3,500 jobs worldwide. The company employs 3,000 people in the UK. |
